Feedback: Brightness

General Description

Effective feedback is one of the keys to achieve powerfully and loyal relationships between team members. Structured feedback can assure openness and trust, moreover, a safe environment to take risks. By encouraging this type of activity, team members will feel that others care about them. Besides, every member will know where they can improve.

It is essential to create and give proper space between the daily work to promote constructive feedback. We recommend this activity for people who have worked together. It should be applied during and at the end of a project to assure effectiveness.

All feedback should have a structure, and this proposal has 'brightness' as its central word. The objective is to show that a team member is doing great and where change is needed.

Level: intermediate

Steps

Create groups of 2 to 8 people. If they are more, create small groups with people who have worked together.

Bonus:

- Ask all the members to have their device camera turned on. Participants should look directly to the camera and establish eye contact to bound.

- Each member should find a quiet place at home/office.

- Try to find a day, and a time-slot, when people are not overburdened.

- Ask team members to have a device with a camera, and post-its or small pieces of paper.

- The facilitator should prepare reflective music

Step 1

The first part of the activity takes 15 minutes. The participants should write the feedback for each team member on separate post-its. Everybody, in silence, will write feedback with this structure:

- "To:

I see you brightening when... You are not able to bright when you...  You would bright more if you...

Signed by: "

In the end, take pictures of each post-it.

Step 2

Start-off with sharing the feedback verbally, one by one. During this part, the person who receives the feedback will only answer-back with a 'Thank you.'

Step 3

Finally, each member will distribute the post-its photos with the rest of the team.

Bonus:

- In the end, everybody looks at ach other for 1 minute in silence, smile, and then finish the meeting.
